Meanwhile, Angela Rizzoli, Jane’s mother, is concerned about some mysterious new neighbors who have moved in across the street. Jane's mother, Angela Rizzoli, suspects there's something strange, perhaps even dangerous, about the new neighbours across the street. Gerritsen kept me turning the pages as I kept trying to figure out where the heck this was going to end up. But in all fairness, nothing escapes Angela—not the disappearance of the rude young teen down the street, nor the weight-lifting Navy SEAL across the street, nor the infidelity of two other neighbors, nor the new odd neighbors directly across the street.

Sofia Suarez, a widow and nurse who was universally liked by all her neighbors, lies bludgeoned to death in her own home. It is only when Detective Rizzoli makes a connection to a recent hit-and-run victim that the case gets even more confounding. Her books have been translated into 31 languages, and more than 15 million copies have been sold around the world. Jane’s case was puzzling and I had as tough a time figuring out the connection to that cold case as she did.

With Jane and Maura tied up in their own investigations, Angela feels she may have to take things into her own hands which could put her in danger. That was pre-pandemic, so by my calculations it’s been 142 years since I read the twelfth book, give or take. ICU director Dr Mike Antrim mentions the care she gave to his daughter, Amy, after her hit-and-run two months earlier. She also wrote a screenplay, "Adrift", which aired as a 1993 CBS Movie of the Week starring Kate Jackson.

She may be a grandmother, not a police detective, but she's savvy enough to know there's something very strange, perhaps even dangerous, about the new neighbours across the street. This really sounds as if they have used AI for sections of the book, or at least heavily edited the narrators performance to it’s detriment. And their business and maybe theirs as well… She absolutely delighted me as I followed her around her neighbourhood. Admittedly, Jane and Maura are the stars of the show - the characters I just can't get enough of; close behind is Jane's husband, Special Agent Gabriel Dean (who, I'm sorry to say, makes not much more than a cameo appearance here). A mixture of quirky characters, mystery, and crime-solving activities, not to mention a few laughs too.By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. Gerritsen does a great job keeping her protagonists going and pushing through a new and curious case, with an added amateur sleuth in the form of Jane’s mother, Angela, working her own investigation.

I’m guessing all of my training with Rizzoli over the years has started paying off as I figured out one of the mysteries straight away and got another one half right.Convinced there's something fishy going on, Angela resorts to conducting an investigation of her own.
