About this deal

It doesn't lower my rating or enjoyment of the book at all but it stands out as a bit of an annoying device.

I absolutely loved the 1941 timeline, reading about the evacuee girls, life during the war and the heartache at Elizabeth’s only child going off to fight the German’s. Jane never ceases to surprise me with the stories she comes up with and Coming To Find You is no exception. The book has you hooked from the opening page, I couldn’t believe how fast I whizzed through this one as I have been struggling with my reading mojo a little in the last couple of months but I’m hoping this one has brought it back. Some parts worked better for me than others but, all in all, this is an engaging, easy, and enjoyable read, perfect for those summer days by the pool. I was left with a few questions towards the end but thankfully these were checked off in the form of a letter from the past that Nancy finds, giving the story it’s closing. I liked the 1941 timeline better than the Nancy/Martin one, which I somehow couldn't engage with at all - the story and characters never really came alive for me.

The present storyline about Nancy and her family was particularly poignant, but for me the characters weaved into the story from the war years is exceptional. But, then it turns out that she is not the only one with something that should have been told but wasn't. The dual timeline was amazing in telling the story of how Tall Chimneys was not only for paying guests but for Evacuees during the war. Following the conviction of her stepbrother Martin for their parents' murder, Nancy just wants to hide away from the world, but unfortunately neither Martin nor the rest of the world seems keen to let her be.I loved the way morality is presented because here we have characters we should abhor as killers and liars, and yet they are people the author makes us care about. The modern day thriller was combined expertly with a moving and suspenseful story of life during WWII. The story begins with Nancy being told to get away from the press after the conviction of her step-brother for the murder of her mother and his father.

I was gifted this copy by Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review. Told in the present and the past we find out about life in sidmouth during the war years and the secrets that Nancys inherited family home may hold! Told between two timelines, Nancy in the present day and Elizabeth during WW2, gives the story a great narrative. I’ve read 5 out of 7 books by this author which were My Husband’s Wife (‘16 - Read ‘21 - 4 Stars), Dead Ex ('18 - Read '20 - 4 Stars), I Made A Mistake ('20 - 4.After a sensational trial which sent her stepbrother to prison for a double murder, Nancy flees to the Cornish countryside to escape the prying eyes of the public and media. Gripping story with near and distant past and present cleverly interwoven to show how the secrets of the past will always come to find us.

Elizabeth and Nancy have a lot in common and I took to them both so well, I know they will both stay with me for a long time to come. With historical fiction themes, Coming to Find You links Nancy’s narrative as she struggles to deal with the death of her stepfather and mother and her stepbrother’s double murder conviction with Elizabeth’s life in WW2.A modern day tragedy sees Nancy fleeing to Devon to take refuge from the media, to Tall Chimneys in Sidmouth. I do believe the level of trauma before the big reveal implied a larger moment and it felt again like the narrator's image was being protected rather than exploring the trauma that links the assault and the murder. POV one is for Nancy our main character, having just absconded to her sea side home after the trial of her murderous step-brother. Once again Jane Corry has written a compelling and tension-filled novel with many serious themes running throughout. We often forget that the people in history also made assumptions about their futures that could be wrong and could have serious consequences.
