Description

The joyful, uplifting new novel from the Sunday Times bestselling author of An Almost Perfect Holiday and The Beach Cafe. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. She is a genuine tour de force with so much spirit and on occasions about as much subtlety as a sledgehammer but she makes me laugh and the pages are definitely brighter when she’s on them! Eliza is determined to find her dad and find out exactly why he left her and her mum alone when she was a baby, she doesn’t understand why he didn’t want any kind of parental connection with her.

The story had a great flow during the reading and it wasn't too obvious what would happen at some points.Laura has always protected Eliza from the truth but when she finds out Steve is not her biological father she sets out on a mission to find out who is. I loved the travel aspect of this book - I’m a time when travel is so restricted, travelling vicariously through books is the next best thing! Story about family relationships and bonds, lovely and in a very realistic way exploring the relationship between mother and daughter. Lara doesn’t want her child to grow up without a father as she did, so she gets together with Steve, letting him believe the child is his.

Some of the best parts of the book of the dynamics between mother and daughter which are acutely observed as they navigate the big secret that lies between them. It's a book that undeniably takes you on a journey as Eliza and Lara both connect (and reconnect with Ben). Lara and Ben are inherently normal, good people whose situation just didn't work out at the beginning so they've settled for what they thought would do. Tender, bittersweet and funny, Lucy Diamond is brilliant about love in all its guises and the mistakes we make.
