The little details – the receipt in the payment area, the card machine – it’s all of the things that as little ones they see us use and so want to join in with. The main checkout area features a hand scanner unit, alongside the till unit which bleeps when pressed. The buttons on the scanner also make a beep noise, there are two different noise levels so it doesn’t have to be too loud. We love the bright colours, the bold red, blue and white are great primary colours and make it appealing for little children.

I decided in a moment of sageness that I was going to assemble the supermarket whilst the boys were at school and preschool and I gave myself half an hour to do it in whilst Gav collected the boys. Syd loves putting cash into the self service checkout, then pressing the button to make her “change” drop out. With this in mind, you can only imagine how quickly I said yes to having the opportunity to receive a Casdon Self Service Supermarket.I honestly think that this is one of the best toys we have had for the children and I am certain it will be played with, every single day, for years to come.

When choosing toys for children it's also important not only what we want them to learn, but also how we want them to learn it. I usually leave assembly to my husband but actually setting up the supermarket was not too bad at all. There’s also a little chip and pin machine for the credit card ) which is included, making it feel like a really authentic supermarket experience for the kids. This is a collaborative post: England’s capital, with its magical charm and rich history, transforms into a winter wonderland during the Christmas season. I took most of these photos of Budapest myself druing our weekend there – but a couple of them I nabbed from Unsplash. At almost four, five and six, the children love nothing more than role play, getting completely into character and creating the most imaginative games together. Georgia and Theobald, a pair of circus performers from Didsbury, are looking to demolish their family castle and build a soulless 5000 square foot glass box with complicated jaunty angles suitable for their growing family (as long as their feral children stay strapped into their beds at all times and don’t touch anything).

That is a bonus of this toy; children can play by themselves, or with siblings and friends and it is still just as much fun. From stacking items on shelves to counting coins, the Self-Service Supermarket offers many ways to learn through play. With Supermarket checkouts fast becoming self service tills, Casdon have created a child friendly version aimed at children aged 3 – 8 years, with all of the features a real supermarket provides. The pressure to get them perfectly lined up is just too much with an over-excited toddler so I bribed her with snacks while I put them all on and made up the little food boxes.
