Description

When Clovis, Eve and Tom decide to play with a ouija board in an old abandoned house on Halloween, none of them foresees the horrors they’re about to unleash. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. With regards to the audiobook, which I listened to on Libby, both the narrator and the editing were poorly done. This is the first book in the Atticus Priest books, The House in the Woods by Mark Dawson, which is well worth a read. Through such intense and scintillating writing Zoe Miller took the reader by the hand and on a journey that becomes unforgettable and I was happy to follow wherever she was leading her characters and this reader.

She hardly paused between lines and different paragraphs such that it was often hard to distinguish which character was saying what. Seller has stated it will dispatch the item within 1 working day upon receipt of cleared payment - opens in a new window or tab . During the summer of 1964 at Heronbrook House something awful happened, the repercussions of which are still radiating through to the present day. Some of the things occurring were quite unnatural and spooky in a way and I genuinely felt for the safety and well being of both Evie and Amber. As the story progressed and all the characters were brought in and their stories were told I really started to enjoy it. It is clear when reading it that Fielding has used her many years of experience to flavour the novel, giving it a creepy and authentic feel.

The story is a bit of a locked room mystery since the four deceased parties are found inside of a house whose windows and doors were all locked. This woman who had such a successful acting career yet she held in so much, keeping her cards close to her chest. Atticus is hired by this man's wife who refuses to believe her husband guilty, and this puts him directly in the path of Mack, who is trying to prove his Guilt!Stranger Things meets Point Horror in the first of a brilliant new series for readers aged 11+ from Yvette Fielding, British television's first lady of the paranormal and presenter of Most Haunted.

The private eye she hires is the spectacularly named Atticus Priest, a disgraced former police detective sacked after several indiscretions, such as smoking weed and having an affair with his senior officer. It was a fascinating plot, which initially pulled me in, but things started getting out of hand when nearly everyone had a turn at being the murder suspect.Quickly dubbed "The Christmas Eve Massacre" by the media, these murders were originally believed to have been a murder-suicide committed by a volatile brother of the deceased family. I am a huge fan of the John Milton series so I was excited when Mark decided to branch out and try new genres.
