To top it off, from someone who lived in Maryland for over 20 years, this fell flat with the facts surrounding the setting. However, I was perplexed by the numerous bedroom scenes and I wondered if I’d stumbled onto a Romance. Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this prior to publication in exchange for my thoughts. I’m usually fine with slang/dialect in novels, but in this case I couldn’t, for the life of me, imagine Will speaking like that.

Ahead of them, the promise of long, dark nights - and the chance to explore one another's bodies properly, away from disapproving eyes. I felt as though I should have been rooting for Ellie, but found I wasn't really connected to her character at all. Kristin Halbrook, through flawless character development and stark, elegant prose, made me believe that Zoe and Will deserved a happily ever after.

Both characters are well-defined and multi-layered, as becomes apparent from their backstories which are drip-fed throughout the book. Yet, somehow, he expects that they will simply be able to disappear in Las Vegas with just her fake ID, where she can enroll in school and they can live together. Her ability to create the eeriness and isolation of the house in the forest, coupled with the snow storm that rages outside adds a tension and feeling of anticipation that heightens towards the shocking and revelatory ending.

He thinks constantly about how much he wants to make her happy, but snaps at her any time she annoys him. I think it would feel more satisfying after being subjected to reading so much of their inner entitled delusional word vomit. Zu Beginn fand ich die Geschichte ganz interessant und war voller Erwartungen was mich erwarten wird. He knows enough to get her a fake ID that lists her age as eighteen, though they never actually use this once, and to expect that the cops will be looking for them.I want to thank Novel Suspects, Hachette Book Group, and Laure Van Rensburg for my physical ARC published on April 12, 2022. It sets a scene for the following pages, where we meet Ellie and Steven as they prepare to set off for a weekend away in an isolated house in the forest.

I want to thank the publisher "Grand Central Publishing" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and any thoughts or opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone! They both seem anxious and feel like everything rests on this weekend but the reader is in the dark as to what that is and why.I would certainly recommend this book and would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers Penguin for letting me review Nobody But Us. There was a hint of the paranormal and I'm still puzzled whether that was really taking place or just hallucinations from their delusional fears that seemed to make the couple completely irrational and out of control but I appreciated this extra element of fear that the author included in this book. I suppose the only redeeming quality about this book is that it was short (only 200+ pages on my copy from Edelweiss). But Ellie on the other hand…well, readers don’t get to meet the real Ellie until roughly halfway through the novel. I actually stopped reading to look up whether this was a romance novel, but no, it’s supposedly literary suspense.
