About this deal

Like previous years, the TCL 6-Series R635 uses Roku TV, an egalitarian smart TV platform that has a fair and robust search feature and most of the major streaming apps.

The TCL 55C635K does not come with a One Connect Box. One Connect Box is a feature that allows users to connect all of their external devices, such as gaming consoles and streaming devices, to a single box that connects to the TV. This reduces cable clutter and makes it easier to switch between devices. However, the TCL 55C635K has multiple HDMI ports and other connectivity options, allowing users to connect their devices directly to the TV. Because of these gremlins, first impressions are mixed, with some strong contrast and vibrancy potential being undermined by some crushing of details in dark areas and overwrought colours. The TV’s first mistake is only providing three main picture presets: Vivid, Low Power and Movie. This really doesn’t leave viewers with enough easy options to get to a well-balanced picture they like, with each preset exhibiting enough issues to make TCL’s decision not to include some kind of Standard preset that sits somewhere between the Vivid and Movie settings seem pretty bizarre. We uploaded the latest brightness measurements and uniformity photos for the Accelerated Longevity Test. You won’t find a traditional Filmmaker mode, as TCL has its own Film mode (or Movie mode, depending on your region!) with the same intention of delivering the picture as originally intended, along with a Sport mode. Everything from the C735K and above also comes with Calman Ready 3D LUT colour calibration, along with Adaptive Picture and an ambient sensor. On the audio front, all but the cheapest LCDs come with Dolby Atmos as standard, with both the QLED and Mini LED models using an Onkyo sound system – with the C835 and C935 adding an extra channel or two, along with Adaptive Sound tech (the latter also found on the C735).

The main function of the processor (CPU) is to interpret and carry out instructions, thus allowing the functioning of the operating system and the software applications. Despite not being incredibly slim, the nearly bezel-less design of the TV is fairly versatile. The legs of the TV can either be placed close together to fit on a smaller table or stand, or can be attached to the outside corners of the TV to give it some more stability. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) It doesn’t have the ‘Pro’ status of those before it, but it does come with a Game Master set-up with 120Hz and VRR, ALLM, Stadia certification and most of the trimmings (although FreeSync is limited to the 55-inch model and above). However, it could also be the last in this list to offer genuine high-quality HDMI 2.1 support, so if that’s a key factor for you, then this could be your best affordable option. Size / Model (UK)Because there’s still a dearth of 4K/HDR content out there the 6-Series still relies really heavily on its AiPQ Engine to transform HD to 4K content. It does this using three algorithms – one for color, one for clarity and one for contrast – and the results, so far, do seem better than last year. Similar to the CPU, the GPU may have more than one core, which serve for the parallel computing of various tasks and achieving better performance with various software applications. Accordingly, if you’re looking for a Roku TV or 144Hz support or anything else, you can find it within TCL’s many different UK TVs on offer; however, for the purposes of this guide, we’ll be focusing on TCL’s flagship, lower-cost TVs with the most mainstream appeal.

Dolby Vision improves on this with its Bright mode (the Dark version is quite dim). On Skyfall (4K Dolby Vision), colours are expressive, detail levels are great, and the TV digs up the fine detail in close ups of Craig’s hair and scars.

What’s New for TCL TVs in 2022?

Approximate width of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the width is calculated from the diagonal and the aspect ratio. On the left there’s a choice of Freeview Play, streaming channels and the settings menu, plus a search function and the ability to save custom lists. Over on the right you can access any connected devices and live TV, along with all the apps. There’s sufficient processing power to ensure the Roku platform is responsive, but it’s also intuitive to use and easy to navigate. One that won’t be made familiar to everyone, the RC630K is a UK-exclusive QLED running Roku TV that is likely to be available from September (or shortly thereafter). It has many of the same features as the C635, including HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, along with the Onkyo sound system, albeit using Dolby Audio rather than Atmos, but there are a few other notable differences. As well as the standard Dynamic Colour support, the P735 also adds a Wide Colour Gamut to the mix, with the usual HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision line-up. It has a 60Hz native display with de-judder and Motion Clarity Pro, along with Micro Dimming and wide viewing angle. There’s also Dolby Atmos support with its two down-firing, full-range, but non-Onkyo speakers. Budget to mid-range TVs tend to focus on functionality over looks, but the TCL C715 sports an elegant and tidy design. The slim metal bezel offers minimal distractions, and the feet – which can be configured in narrow (which I chose) and wide positions – offer flexibility (you don’t get this with the 50-inch model, however). Nor does it take long for the set to be assembled: slot in the feet, tighten the two screws for each foot, and you’re done.

Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output Can it possibly be true? Can TCL have undercut the market by a significant margin while still producing a TV that’s worth watching? Availability Likely to echo much of the P635 features, the RP630K is set to be a UK-exclusive TV that is currently expected some time later in the year. As with the RC630K, it will be a Roku TV including FreeView Play and all the usual suspects at your disposal (subscriptions pending of course). You’ll still be able to access the likes of Google Home and chat with Alexa if you wish, but Google Photos won’t be an option in Ambient mode. It is also the last of the models to share the same Google Smart TV platform in the UK as it does with its European counterparts, along with support for Apple HomeKit, Matter and Miracast (plus the more common TCL Home, Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Google Assistant/Alexa companions. The smaller 43 and 50-inch models, along with the super-sized 85 and 98-inch are not yet prepped for the UK market but that could well change a little later down the line. But even if your size options are limited by your home region, the C735 still has the capacity to offer great value for money. Size / Model (UK)The C735 boasts the same enhanced Ai PQ2.0 processor with Deep Learning, and also the use of a Quantum Dot filter, but not the same kind of upgrades to brightness or its audio system. It still offers a 144Hz native resolution, plus the full set of HDR support as the Mini LEDs, and the likes of ‘Ultra’ anti-reflection, Motion Clarity Supreme, Adaptive Picture and the Ultra-Wide viewing angle. It is also the last model in this list to come with Game Master Pro, Game Bar functionality and FreeSync Premium, so if you want the best gaming platform then this might be your best ‘cheapest’ option. Three lines of TV make up TCL’s most recent, budget-oriented TVs: the C64K Series, the RC630K Series and the C745K Series. These TVs scale up in terms of price and features like HDR, QLED displays, Dolby Atmos, and more. Speaking of the legs, one neat addition this year is the ability to weave cables through the legs themselves, creating a less chaotic space free from wires. The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen. If you’re a fan of Google and its smart services, the TCL 4K Android TV is a great option for you. With this device, you can access all your favorite apps, like Netflix and Hulu Plus. It’s easy to use with just one hand and has a remote control that lets you navigate through menus with ease.
